Thanksgiving Day is fast approaching!! The Pilgrims hosted a feast to thank God for giving them a safe passage to the New World. They were also thankful that they lived to experience a bountiful Harvest Season that first year. A good number of them had died previously, due to the lack of food and their inability to fend for themselves in a strange environment. They also had to gather food in a different way than they were accustomed to. The Pilgrims were grateful for their neighbors the Native Americans(Squanto and others), who showed them how to fish, hunt and find food in rather harsh weather conditions sometimes. They sat together and shared food with one another, thanking God for His provision and for their friendship.
This is one of the holidays that bring families together. It is a time we express love and appreciation to the people and family members who touch our lives daily in positive ways.
The Upper Room Store has some books on Thanksgiving. These books can be use to tell this noble story of courage, friendship and gratitude to your children. They are easy to read books that explain a part of the American History in a way that not only children will understand but adults as well. It will help to keep this heartwarming tradition of our nation going from generation to generation.

Great Resources on Forgiveness
On my last post on Pastor Appreciation, I had shared a time when my pastor gave me great insight on forgiveness and used a simple illustration to show me how to let go of offenses. This helped me to release the person who had hurt me and to release myself as well from the bitterness that was in me toward this person.
Because God created us to be relational in nature, there is always going to be conflicts as we relate to other people because of our differences in personalities. There could be conflict in marriages, between friends, between siblings, even between congregations and the list goes on. Bitterness due to unforgiveness can literally cripple a person and cause physical ailments. God has provided a way out for us through the example shown to us by His beloved Son.
One of my blog followers made a comment on that blog and suggested that I feature some great books from my online store, The Upper Room Book Store. I have not read the books I am suggesting here, but I have heard some great comments about them. You may also see additional comments from other people who have read these books and have benefited from them. I know you will find truths in them and hope these truths will release you from bitterness and help you grant forgiveness as you let God in to help you.
Here are the links to these great books: From Anger To Intimacy by Dr. Gary Smalley

Navigating The Upper Room Store
It occurred to me that I should provide tips on navigating The Upper Room Store. I’ll give a general explanation of what you might find when you visit the web site. My store is stocked with a large selection of books, including audio books, Bibles, homeschooling books and more. There is jewelry from different jewelry makers, home decor from a variety of artists and designers. The entertainment section has music CDs and movies on DVD, games and more.
We also carry seasonal gifts. Currently there are beautiful Thanksgiving and Christmas items. The apparel section has great designs on T-shirts and sweat shirts and much much more. There are other categories that you will find as you get in the store. The items mentioned above highlight merely a few things from the vast inventory of products available at my store.
We have started selling gift cards (which can be sent electronically, or if you choose, by mail) . These cards may be excellent for those people on your list who are difficult to guess what they may like. A gift card can allow your loved ones to make the selection of a present they prefer. Whether you make the choice of specific items or purchase a gift card, you can be confident you have given them a gift that will help them focus on Christ.
Now, for finding something in the store, you could always click the advance search button and look for any book title or any other item you might be looking for. Otherwise, when you get in the store, select the section of the store you want to visit from the menu on the left side of the page. For example, if you are looking for a sweat shirt. When you click on apparel and a page comes up, that is not all we have in the store. You should look again to the left menu and you will find more apparel from several Christian designers. Just keep looking until you find what you want. With every item, you will see where you can view the item and read a short description on it to be sure that's what you really want. Proceed to add it to your cart and continue shopping until you are ready to check out. The rest will be easy as you get checked out.
REMEMBER: There is a store coupon for 10% off of every gift over $25.00. Please take advantage of it, it is my way to welcome you to my store and be sure you have a pleasant shopping experience. just go to this link: www.theupperroomstore.deepershopping.com

Pastor Appreciation Post
This month has been designated as a time to especially honor clergy. I for one have been so blessed by the teachings, the sense of family and the input that I have received from my pastors. I know that Jesus is the one that our eyes should be fixed on, but He has given us some godly men and women who have received insight from Him to pass along to the people He has given them to minister His love to.
One instance in my life where I received a very sound input from one of my pastors was when I was having a difficult time forgiving a friend who had betrayed my trust, and hurt me in the process. When I told my pastor what the situation was, I wanted him to agree with me that this friend was supposed to be made to realize how much they had hurt me and to ask for my forgiveness. However, my pastor used an illustration of a duck having water roll down its back to help me see that if this friend didn't want to see or admit what they had done to hurt me, I was to act like the duck and let the offense slide away without affecting my heart. In essence, I was to forgive this person.
It was a very difficult thing for me to do, but when I lined up my heart to do what God wanted, it got a little easier to do. My pastor had told me that the human heart doesn't run to forgiveness but to revenge so, I was to ask the Lord to come into my heart and love this person through me so I could forgive them. It took some time because I had to continue to make the choice to love this person every time I saw them. Eventually, I knew I had released them.
Wow!! What truth!! My friendship with this person stayed intact and we love each other and do things together as if there was never any friction in our relationship. It is stories like the one I just shared with you that make me appreciate my pastors and thank God immensely for the gift He has given them to guide us.
In Matthew 6:15 God says: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. This was a valuable lesson I learned during this session with my pastor.
You can show your appreciation for your pastor or clergy by giving them a gift. Please check out this audio book: The Purpose Driven Church by Rick Warren. It is a good resource for tips on growing the Church.

A Merry Heart Doeth Good Like Medicine
We all love a good joke from time to time. It is always fun to watch people have a good hearty laugh. Sometimes when laughing at something really funny, tears can run down a person's face. They can get a little winded and hold their sides from a rib tickling gut chuckle, and may even lose a bodily function(if you know what I mean). Ha ha ha!! Often times an observer joins in the laughter without even knowing the basis of it because laughing is contagious.
You feel a kind of release after a good laugh, sort of like a cleansing and you remain up beat for quite sometime. Everyone around you is in a good mood because there is happiness in the air. Did you know that when you laugh your brain produces endorphines (the body's feel good chemical) that actually helps the healing process? Laughing is a great outlet, and it is good for the soul. There have been many testimonials of how laughter has contributed to people healing quickly from serious ailments. Laughter is a good thing for your total well being. As the Scripture says: " A Merry Heart Doeth Good Like a Medicine." (Proverbs 17 :22) http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+17:22&version=KJV
The Upper Room Store has many great books on the subject of laughter and humour. For example, Let There Be Laughter by Hollingsworth addresses this topic.
