It is still very chilly to think we have already entered the Spring season. When Spring comes around, I get excited not only because everything is coming alive and we will soon be inundated with beautiful array of flowers; I get excited because it is also the season for Easter, my favorite holiday when the death and resurrection of my Savior Jesus Christ is remembered by Christians all over the world. I do rejoice in His forgiveness of my sin and the freedom I now enjoy in Him.

Honoring St. Patrick

It is St Patrick's Day this Thursday March 17Th! St Patrick is being honored as a man who had a great impact on the Christian faith in Ireland and abroad. It is always an exciting time here in the United States, there is revelry, a parade and parties as people with Irish ancestry remember the stories of the great St Patrick. Green seems to be the color most often seen at this time, as Ireland is known as "The Emerald Isle". In our Great City of Chicago, home to many Irish Americans, the Chicago River is dyed green during this period to add to the festivities. It looks awesome!!.

Now for a little background on St Patrick... At age 16, he considered himself a pagan. It was at that age he was sold into slavery by a group of Irish marauders that raided his village. During his captivity, he became closer to God.
He escaped from slavery after six years and went to Gaul where he studied in the monastery under St. Germain, bishop of Auxerre for a period of twelve years. During his training he became aware that his calling was to convert the pagans to Christianity.

One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. And this stems from a more bona fide Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his "feast day”.

"Decision Points", book by President G.W. Bush

Some of you may have watched The Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday the 8Th of March 2011. Her guest was the Honorable President George W. Bush who was being interviewed about his new book entitled Decision Points. It was a great interview. Using key points from the book, the discussion focused on major decisions that shaped his presidency and his life. Mr. Bush described the impact which the monumental events of Sept. 11Th 2001 had on him and altered the emphasis of his presidential service. Oprah also engaged the 43rd president in a candid discussion concerning the disaster of Hurricane Katrina. I found it quite touching when at the end of the interview, George Bush was asked to describe himself. He mentioned several aspects of his life but concluded by stating that what he hoped people would most remember him for is his heart

Navigating Through the Menopausal Maze

I recently listened to a Moody Radio program, Midday Connection with Anita Lustrea on Menopause. Now for us ladies forty and over, this is a reality we can’t escape. Loraine Pintus was the guest on the show. She is a godly woman. However, when she was plagued with ailments that come with PMS, peri menopause and full blown menopause that impair the physical, emotional and spiritual well being, she did not appear to be so godly. This was very distressing to her, so she asked God to help her exhibit the character of a godly woman even during these periods of physiological changes in her life. Her insight on this subject is refreshing and helpful.

The Encouraging Wife

Continuing on our series on love for Valentines Day, I wanted to write a post entitled The Encouraging Wife as we refer to the relationship between husband and wife. Sometime last week, I caught part of a conversation that was being aired on Moody's Midday Connection program with Anita Lustrea. I heard the guest challenging wives to say one positive thing about their husbands for a number of days and watch God change their marriages for the better. This was something the guest had done in her own marriage that was falling apart and she saw God miraculously changed it and caused her to fall in love with her husband once again. I thought this was a very positive and inspiring thing to do. I was also reminded in scripture where it says the words we speak are powerful to either make or break people or situations. God says in the book of Proverbs 18:21 (New American Standard Bible)
21Death and life are in the power of the tongue...

Another relevant verse is: Proverbs 12:18 (New American Standard Bible)
18There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword,
But the tongue of the wise brings healing.

This challenge produced testimonies that confirmed God's word. Some of these women had marriages that were in trouble but their marriages got back on track because they took this challenge to heart.
